The making of home,
across time.

Grant writing, archive and preservation support, and ecological tools for the land trusts, historical societies, and communities caring for New England's places.

Ecopoiesis — from the Greek oikos, home, and poiesis, making.

It's the work of making and keeping a home: a landscape, a building, a community's memory, so it can carry forward to the people who come next. That's the work I do.

Where we were, where we are,
where we're going.

Most of this work is funded by grants, so grant research and writing runs through all of it. And because land and heritage are so often cared for, and funded, together, I work across that line.

Heritage

Where we were.

For historical societies, libraries, and town committees caring for what's been entrusted to them.

  • Archive digitization and transcription: making handwritten records, ledgers, letters, and photographs searchable and shareable, using AI tools with careful human review.
  • Preservation grant research and writing for historic buildings, from Grange halls to meeting houses.

Stewardship

Where we are.

For land trusts, conservation commissions, and environmental nonprofits.

  • Grant research, application writing, and funding strategy.
  • Familiar with EPA Region 1, USDA Rural Development, state programs, and the New England foundation landscape.

Restoration

Where we're going.

Ecological education projects and tools that help people notice and care for the places around them, from interpretive and learning materials to the apps of Ecopoiesis Labs.

Rooted in
one place.

I'm Molly Austin, and I work from Nottingham, New Hampshire with the organizations that hold a community's places in trust: its land, its buildings, and its memory. I help them find funding, organize what they have, and share it.

My background spans environmental science, conservation, and local history, and I build small digital tools for paying closer attention to the living world.

I'm completing a BS in Environmental Science (Natural Resources & Conservation) with a minor in Political Science.

Notes from
the field.

Occasional writing on land, heritage, funding, and the slow work of caring for place, posted when there's something worth saying.

Let's talk about
your project.

Whether it's a grant, an archive, or an idea about a place you love, I'd be glad to hear about it.

Grant funding is competitive. You're paying for thorough research and a strong application — not a guarantee. Most clients find the process clarifies their story as much as it pursues funding.
