Trophle

Terms of Use

These terms govern the Trophle daily ecology game, account-free iOS app, website accounts, and separate web and iOS archives.

Effective and last updated: August 26, 2026

Important: Trophle is an educational game. Its puzzles and source notes are not professional scientific, conservation, medical, environmental, legal, or safety advice.

1. Accepting these terms

By accessing or using Trophle, you agree to these Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Services. You must be at least 13 to create an account. If you are under the age of legal majority where you live, use Trophle only with permission from a parent or legal guardian who accepts these terms on your behalf.

2. The Services

Trophle provides a daily ecology puzzle and supporting educational material. The iOS app has no Trophle account and keeps game progress on the device. The separate website offers optional account features that may include archive samples, saved web progress, web streaks, and recognition of website archive access. Feature availability differs between the website and iOS app and may change as the product develops.

3. Educational content and accuracy

We aim to ground puzzles in reliable sources, but ecology is complex and scientific understanding, classifications, population conditions, and source websites change. Puzzles necessarily simplify relationships and may contain errors or omit important context. Dates and locations associated with organisms or ecological events are illustrative or source-based and do not establish current local conditions.

Do not use Trophle to make decisions involving health, consumption or handling of organisms, species identification, wildlife contact, land management, legal compliance, or personal safety. Consult current primary sources and qualified professionals where a decision matters.

4. Accounts

The iOS app does not offer a Trophle account. An account is optional on the website and may be required for web archive or web progress features. The website may use a passwordless email link for sign-in. You are responsible for providing an address you control, protecting access to that inbox and sign-in links, and notifying us of suspected unauthorized access.

You may request deletion of your website account as described in the Privacy Policy. Deleting it may permanently remove saved web archive plays, web streak information, and other website account records. It does not delete local iOS app data, automatically create a refund, or erase records we must retain for legal or transaction purposes.

5. Archive access and purchases

Trophle may offer a limited number of archive samples at no charge and a one-time purchase for broader archive access. The price, platform, content, and access included will be shown before purchase. A purchase grants a personal, limited, non-transferable license to use the purchased feature on the platform identified at checkout; it does not transfer ownership of puzzles or software.

Website payments are processed by Stripe under the terms shown at checkout. Apple processes iOS purchases through the App Store, and qualifying Apple purchases may be restored through the mechanisms Trophle and Apple provide. Refund requests are governed by the payment platform’s policies and applicable law.

Website and iOS archive access are separate. A website purchase does not unlock the iOS app, and an App Store purchase does not unlock the website archive. Each platform displays its own price and purchase terms before payment. Prices may differ by platform, currency, tax, or region.

6. Acceptable use

You may not use the Services to break the law or facilitate harm; infringe another person’s rights; probe, disrupt, overload, scrape, bypass, or compromise the Services; gain unauthorized access to an account or paid feature; automate play or archive extraction except with our written permission; remove ownership notices; misrepresent Trophle content as professional advice; or reproduce, resell, publish, or commercially exploit puzzles or software without written permission.

7. Intellectual property

Trophle—including its software, branding, interfaces, puzzle text, original illustrations, arrangements, and design—is owned by Ecopoiesis or its licensors and is protected by intellectual-property laws. These terms do not transfer ownership. Facts, scientific concepts, and third-party source material remain subject to their applicable rights and licenses.

8. Sharing and external links

Trophle may let you share a spoiler-free result for personal, noncommercial use. You are responsible for the destination and any commentary you add. Source links and other external websites are provided for convenience and context. We do not control or endorse every statement, product, privacy practice, or later change on an external site.

9. Availability and changes

We do not guarantee that every puzzle, archive feature, account, purchase path, streak, or online service will always be available or error-free. We may correct puzzles, change features, update sources, suspend online functions for maintenance or security, or discontinue a Service. We will use reasonable efforts to avoid materially depriving purchasers of access without an appropriate remedy where required by law.

Local browser or device data can be lost through app removal, browser clearing, device failure, software changes, or other events. Website account storage is not a backup guarantee. Do not rely on a streak or play history as information you cannot afford to lose.

10. Third-party services

The Services rely on third parties that may include Apple, Supabase, Stripe, Vercel, Plausible, and linked scientific publishers. Their services have separate terms and may change or become unavailable. We are not responsible for a third party’s independent services, content, or conduct except where applicable law provides otherwise.

11. Disclaimer of warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Services are provided “as is” and “as available.” Ecopoiesis disclaims implied warranties including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, quiet enjoyment, and non-infringement. These disclaimers do not limit consumer rights or warranties that cannot lawfully be excluded.

12. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Ecopoiesis and its members, personnel, and service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, access, profits, opportunities, or goodwill arising from the Services. Ecopoiesis’s aggregate liability for a claim relating to the Services will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid for Trophle during the 12 months before the claim or US $50. These limits do not apply where prohibited or to liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

13. Suspension and termination

You may stop using Trophle at any time. We may suspend or terminate access to an online or account feature if you materially violate these terms, misuse paid access, or if reasonably necessary to protect users, the Services, or others. Provisions that by their nature should survive—including ownership, disclaimers, and liability limits—will survive.

14. App Store license

The Trophle iOS app is licensed, not sold. Unless Ecopoiesis supplies a separate custom license through the App Store, Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies to the app license. These Terms govern the Trophle service and supplement that license. If a conflict concerns the app license, the applicable App Store license controls.

15. Changes, severability, and waiver

We may update these terms and will post the current version at this URL with its effective date. If a provision is unenforceable, it will be adjusted only as much as necessary and the remaining provisions will continue in effect. Failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.
